Slice of Soul is every bit of it’s name! I visited with friends, and we were immediately greeted by the friendly staff and soulful music. This is not your average pizza joint.
Opening January of 2018, this spot is cozy, Afrocentric, and down home to say the least. It is a lounge of culture with African-American art, a Memphis-themed menu, and a small stage for live performances.
Our server, Wanda, was welcoming and attentive. She greeted us and explained their Memphis Black Restaurant (MBRW) Special. I ordered the Memphis TN Combo, which included the 10in. oval pizza, three whole wings, a beverage, and a slice of cake. My pizza included bacon, chicken, spinach, onion, and cheese with a side of banana pepper. I ordered the Haven Honey Hot wings and Trigg Tasty Sweet Tea. The dessert for the day was pound cake.
About ten minutes later, our food arrived. The pizza crust was crisp, flavorful, and heavenly. I was, honestly, in disbelief. I do not consider myself a big “pizza eater”, but when I say Slice of Soul exceeded my expectations… I am at a loss for words. I could actually taste the hot AND the honey on the wings, neither sauce overpowered the other. For my dessert lovers, the pound cake was definitely homemade. It was fresh, moist, and not too sweet. The cook was not playing around today!
Do not let the appearance fool you! The décor may be unconventional, but the food is amazing! By the end of the meal, my friends and I were discussing another visit. This spot is perfect for groups or a casual date night.
